Week 5- Siding and Drywall...Houston we may have a problem

Hola Compadres

Sorry it has been a while since I have posted about the house. Have a lot going on these days with wedding planning.

Anywho we went down last Saturday 9/1 to see the sights and this is what we saw.

When we pulled up I was super excited to have siding yay! and then I looked at it again and started to think it was a little dark. We chose Sandtone siding and I thought it was a more yellow/tan color where as the siding (more so in person) is more of a orange/beige color. It didn't help that as soon as we got out of the car Chris says " it's orange"

When we 1st had our color choice meeting this is a pic of the swatch I took. ( the lighting isn't the greatest sorry)

Here is another pic of the kind of "Orange Tint" that I am speaking of ( I even had a friend un-prompted ask if our house was peach when I showed her a pic of it lol)

We contacted our SR to see if there were any other Sandtone houses in our neighborhood just to make sure we got the right color. She gave us an address in a near by neighborhood ( but we haven't been back down yet to see it). She also explained to us that right around the time we made our color selection they changed their options from a Sandstone colored siding to a Sandtone  colored siding saying that sandstone was lighter. I was/am kind of wondering if the swatch didn't get switched properly or something however if you look at the above picture it says " sandtone"  on it, so I guess we shall see.

Our SR and PM are working on making sure the color we got is the color we chose. I haven't really heard anything from either one of them all week and I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

I didn't really get any good pics of he drywall while I was down there sorry. There were a few issues the most major of them being we are missing an outlet in our powder room ( we have no outlets at all in there as of right now)  but besides that it was pretty minor stuff that should be fixed fairly easily.

So using other pairs of eyes do you see what I see or am I seeing things?

* Edited to add- If if turns out that it is the right color we are both fine with it. It is not that we don't like it, we were just expecting something  a little different

  1. I think it matches the swatch. It just looks slightly different because the swatch picture was taken in poor lighting and your house picture was taken in daylight.

  2. i agree i think they look the same, but i always always think there's a big difference when you look at a small 5inx5in swatch of something and then seeing it real life (carpet, flooring, paint...siding).

    1. Our SR said the same thing about things looking different in a small swatch form as opposed to being full size.

    2. Ask to borrow the swatch and then take it to your house and compare.

    3. I will definitely do that the next time we go down.

  3. We got the sandtone as well and were disappointed to see that it looked really yellow on the house. Seems like everyone else in our neighborhood got beiges and grays, and we really stood out. After 4 months, we have noticed that it looks less and less yellow and more tan (more like the swatch). It really is beautiful with all the finishing touches.

  4. RH really could stand to make some of their samples a little larger so you can get a better picture of what they'd look like on a house. I also think they should suggest/encourage people to take any of the exterior samples outside to view them in natural light. I never would have thought of that on my own, but after seeing a few bloggers disappointed with their siding choice once it was installed it seems like a good idea.

  5. I have the same feeling about my carpet. It seems a lot darker now that it's in than the swatch I choose. I'm thinking it's probably just that the swatches were so small, but I may ask about it just to be sure.

  6. I agree with colette with the samples not matching the finished product. We asked our SR to get us the big carpet samples before we made a choice..it held us up about a week and half because the company was in the next county and the rep had a hard time getting the samples delivered...but we at least were able to see more of it and we took it outside in natural light!... If you take the swatch and it doesn't match and your not happy , I would ask them what they can do, it never hurts to ask!!! Good luck!

  7. The Sandstone sidings don’t look bad at all! It actually made your house look fresh and clean. It’s difficult to determine what the color looks like just by looking at the pictures, but if you ask me, I think looks just dandy there. So in the end, what did you go with? Did you switch sidings or stick with the ones already installed?

    1. We compared the siding with the swatch and it is the same color.

We had some one else comment that there is a Sandtone house in their neighborhood and it looks like a different color at different times of day. I completely agree with this, depending on the sunlight the house looks lighter or darker but overall I really like it now that everything is done and there is landscaping =-)

  8. Nice! A lot of homes are built with darker color sidings. This type of color is really going outside the box! It looks so fresh and admirable..

  9. Another good thing about it is that you'll be able to see dirt much easier compared to sidings that have a darker shade. You'll know when it's time to clean it. That's a pretty big house by the way. Fixing the elements for it's interior will be a very fun experience, for sure. :)
